In an age of democracy and equality, war is obsolete. We live in a time of progress. Relatively free from the grasp of tyranny, with love as our greatest weapon against oppression. In this world, what is there left to fight for? This question haunts us every day, as we see those on the opposite side lash out in anger at times unchecked by morality or order. Non-military individuals cannot be considered "terrorists". Only the military can fight the enemy. The military are often overlooked by politicians who are too afraid of offending public opinion. The government are too eager to placate voters, in order to keep them satisfied. This is the very thing that fuels the conflicts in our world today. War is evil, and no nation has this in their founding principles. Yet never have so many wanted to take up arms for so little reason. The need to defend ourselves against an enemy seen as a real threat simply does not exist. As terrible as war is, it does on occasion bring out the best in us. Some of the most often forgotten moments are when we rise to our best, to achieve victory or be victorious. This is where I find myself. I am an officer in the United States Army. My country has dealt with some of its greatest challenges in Iraq and Afghanistan, and while it has become an "easy" war for the politicians, it has proven to be one for me. It is all I have known since I left school at sixteen years old. It is my life, my profession- my source of pride and purpose. I have a family too. My wife and I were married just a little over a year ago, and we have a beautiful baby girl. But as time goes on, I am starting to lose my faith in this world. A war fought with politics instead of principle is one that will never be won. A cause without moral justification is one that leaves the volunteers with no purpose. It is set in an alternate universe where at the end of World War II, the Allied forces and their Soviet allies were forced to remove Hitler from power due to his unstable leadership and penchant for bloodshed. As a result, Germany and her allies broke free from their previous obligations and created a new order in Europe: The German Empire. This new empire saw much of Europe fall under its control, with countries such as France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and many others becoming annexation immediately.
